Is there Uber in Puerto Escondido?
No, Uber has not arrived to Puerto Escondido officially speaking. While you might see vehicles available on the app when in Puerto, you’ll likely have a tough time securing one.
As far as we know there is no talk of Uber planning to officially and legally operate in Puerto Escondido in the near future.

Is there DiDi in Puerto Escondido?
If you’re traveling from Oaxaca City to Puerto Escondido, you might assume that since DiDi works so well in Oaxaca City that it must work similarly in Puerto Escondido, right? Wrong!
While DiDi shows up in Puerto, like Uber, it’s generally quite difficult to find drivers that are willing to do the service.
Reasons for the lack of these services generally stem from ongoing disputes between the local taxi union and rideshare taxi apps like DiDi and Uber.

Five Alternatives to Uber in Puerto Escondido
The most common methods of transportation in Puerto Escondido are colectivos, taxis, private transportation, rental cars and scooter rentals.
1. Colectivo
Colectivos are primarily used by locals and residents of Puerto Escondido for quick rides from point A to point B around town for approximately 10-15 pesos.
This is the most economical way to move around town. Colectivos are cheap, easy and make frequent stops to pick up and drop off passengers along a specific route
If you are not a local or someone who resides in Puerto Escondido and speaks Spanish, we do not recommend this option.
2. Taxi
If you are visiting Puerto Escondido for a short period of time, we recommend finding a local taxi driver that you can trust to pick you up and take you where you want to go on demand.
While finding an honest and trustworthy taxi driver can be challenging for visitors to Puerto Escondido, the best way to find a driver is to ask a local or foreigner who lives in Puerto for a recommendation or simply join one of the many Locals & Foreigners in Puerto Escondido Facebook Groups and use the search function inside of the group to find a list of reputable drivers.
3. Private Transportation

5. Motorcycles & Scooters
The last option on our list of alternatives to Uber in Puerto Escondido is to rent a scooter or motorcycle from a local shop or independent rental agent.
Motos and scooters are cheap, convenient and the most commonly used method of transportation for locals and residents of Puerto.
With a moto or scooter, you’ll have the opportunity to access harder to reach beaches, carry a surfboard, make a pit stop at the market or road trip to another nearby town along the coast.
If you decide to rent a scooter or moto during your trip to Puerto Escondido, please make sure to follow the rules of the road, drive the speed limit, be aware of fellow drivers and most importantly never leave the house without a helmet!
